Capheaton Tea Room

a cyclist hotspot and a historians dream!

HISTORY OF THE TEAROOM

As you can imagine, a 100 year building often needs a little TLC. Sadly, just before the millennium (1996 approximately), the village hall was needing vital repairs. The villagers, with the help of the local farmers wives, came together at the weekends to raise the much-needed funds. It was here that Capheaton Tearoom was formed. No-one knew what would be on the menu in those first few weeks, it was early on the Saturday morning the locals would bring around the cakes they had freshly baked. On the wall as you come in you can see a framed original menu… but don't look too closely at the prices, they have changed over the years! It is by chance that Capheaton is situated on one of Northumberland's top cycle routes. With all roads to Capheaton uphill, the thought of cake at the top entices many a cyclist! Nowadays, we are proud to serve cyclists from across the North East as well as the those who were drawn in by our Tea Pot sign on the A696. The only difference is that we know whats on the menu before a Saturday!
